Announcements New Arbiter Features One new feature sure to please assignors and referees alike is the new
automatic scoping feature to link referees to area assignors. If you live
in the Metropolitan Charlotte region and would like to receive assignments
from all three assignors, Eric Johnson, Charles Powell and Diego Romoro,
or you are coming into this region for assessed game or work extended
work or school, there is an easy way to be "seen" on the assignor
of your choice. Get Re-Certified! The new USSF Soccer Year is about half over. I know your badge says 2008 and you just now started wearing it, but the 2008 Laws are written to be enforce beginning July 1, 2007 and new laws will go into effect July 1, 2008! If you don't re-certify early in July or August, you could be applying out-of-date Laws and International Board Decisions incorrectly for up to six months! Plan now to re-certify early; as some of you have discovered, the number of local clinics that will be available next January will be very limited. Don't be caught short and needing to drive 100 miles to find a clinic. Now is the time to begin planning for a summer re-certification clinic! New Referees Current referees, are you doing your part to recruit new referees? It is in our interest to have a steady stream of new referees coming into our area, especially with the dramatic growth of youth soccer here. Always refer interested individuals to www.ncsra.org for a full description of the certification process and a list of area clinics. Document on Points of Emphasis Experienced referees should especially review this excellent FIFA Special Instructions file, about elbowing, shirt tugging and other vital aspects of match control: Special Instructions for Referees It is TIME TO BE ON TIME! A point of emphasis in 2008 is Officiating Crew Communications. And it begins with a proper pre-game meeting. Make sure you have allowed sufficient time to arrive for your first match of the day at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled kickoff. If you are new to site, allow for additional time to get lost and for possible traffic tie-ups. The more challenging the match, the earlier you should arrive -- rested and focused. It is the foundation of professionalism.
